A genuine and persistent pursuit of God is the foundation for a life that succeeds in His purpose. What ultimately counts is not just worldly success, but succeeding in what God wants you to do. The secret to knowing God’s will is to continuously seek Him.
The Consistency of Our Seeking (Psalm 34)
Our pursuit of God must be constant, regardless of our circumstances:
- 🎯 Seek Him in Trouble: Don’t abandon God when problems arise.
- 🎯 Seek Him in Merry Times: Don’t forget God when you are successful and happy.
- 🎯 Seek Him as You Mature: A common trap is to seek God less as we get older or more comfortable.
The Obstacles to Our Seeking (Luke 19:1–10)
The story of Zacchaeus illustrates barriers we must overcome in order to truly seek the Lord:
- ✅ Physical & Social Obstacles: Zacchaeus was hindered by his height and rejected by society. People around you (even other believers) may unintentionally or intentionally discourage you from seeking Jesus. Don’t let the behavior of others become your excuse.
- ✅ The Obstacle of Offense: The enemy uses offense to steal our blessings and disconnect us from God. Make a conscious decision to refuse offense. Don’t allow anyone or anything to pull you away from God’s presence and purpose.
The Attitude of Our Seeking
Zacchaeus’s actions challenge us with important questions:
- ↪ To what extent are you willing to go to find God?
- ↪ How desperate are you to seek Him?
Like Zacchaeus, sometimes you must “climb a tree” — whether that tree is fasting, prayer, or intentional sacrifice.
Wherever you are in life, you must fight for your personal time with God. It is a non-negotiable priority to know Him more.
The Legacy of Seeking
Our pursuit of God has both personal and generational significance:
- 📍 Personal Responsibility: Keep your heart set on seeking God more and more.
- 📍 Generational Impact: Pass on this heart of pursuit to your children and those who come after you.
✝️ May we never grow weary of seeking the Lord, but continually press in to know Him more—leaving behind a legacy of faith for generations to come.
